Baaghi 4 Review: Tiger Shroff Packs Fierce Action Punch, But a Weak Script Turns the Thrill into Chaos

Baaghi 4: The fourth entry in the Baaghi series, directed by A. Harsha, continues the trend started by Animal. The fascination with Iron Age weapons is one element that has obviously transferred from the South to Bollywood in this wave of pan-Indian film.  Our heroes now do more than just shoot firearms from a distance; they recklessly swing swords, axes, and hammers, frequently for show rather than because the situation calls for it.  These days, violence is a statement of cinematic style.  An “Adults Only” classification is now a justification for filmmakers to use as much blood as they want rather than a sign of maturity.  Why should Tiger Shroff remain if Ranbir Kapoor can succeed?

Ronny (Tiger Shroff) is much in love with a girl named Alisha (newcomer Harnaaz Sandhu) in this fourth installment of the action franchise.  The twist?  The world thinks she doesn’t exist at all.

As we’ve seen in recent years, Tiger primarily focusses on flexing his physique, frowning, and executing acrobatic acrobatics. In contrast, love is supposed to be about emotions and expression.  The authors devise a justification to make up for this deficiency: the hero experiences hallucinations.  Tiger uses this as a chance to transform the part into a freestyle wrestling act, flitting his gaze around but never establishing any kind of emotional bond.

Even a conversation that haphazardly combines harmonium and hormones is included.  The picture is essentially a paper-thin plot drowning in style and turmoil, summed up by that odd combination of hormones, harmoniums, and hammers.  While Harnaaz, the most recent beauty contest winner attempting to make a name for herself in Bollywood, largely pouts and poses, Tiger regrettably appears lost.  When that doesn’t work, the cutouts in her costumes are the focus of the camera.

Baaghi 4, which is based on the Tamil movie Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu, frequently feels like it is stuck in production.  You wish you could just click forward since the writing drags as Ronny keeps looking for Alisha incessantly.  The cliches that Harsha uses are a loving brother (Shreyas Talpade), some slapstick humour with Sudesh Lehri, and the arrival of an eccentric police officer (Upendra Limaye).  None of this, however, improves the screenplay.

The Baaghi 4 is lavishly staged and features action choreography because it was produced by the Nadiadwala production company.  However, it appears that they cut costs on the writing.  Many of the scenes are more like ostentatious music videos than narratives.

The plot finally develops a rhythm in the second half, when the missing girl’s secret starts to come to light.  The mood is enhanced by the background music, but the “big revelation” is way too straightforward, making the lengthy wait seem senseless.

Sanjay Dutt proves in Baaghi 4 to be the saviour amidst all of this cacophonous mayhem.  He gives the part much-needed weight by portraying a tall villain named Chako, who appears prepared to take on even Jesus Christ.  In addition, Sonam Bajwa is a beautiful diversion in Ronny’s life.  She gives respect to an otherwise weak role in her little on-screen time.  It’s also difficult to ignore Saurabh Sachdeva’s intimidating presence.

Ultimately, this extravagant mess might be for you if you want to watch a C-rated Hollywood movie remade in Hindi and enjoy scenes like knives piercing Chako’s chest.
