Dhadak 2: Karan Johar Breaks Silence on the Struggles and Triumph of ‘Dhadak 2’

Recently, Karan Johar talked about the deeper purpose and postponement of Dhadak 2, a caste-based film that is now scheduled for release on August 1. Johar said in a statement on Friday that although it took some time to get Dhadak 2 on the big screen, the Censor Board finally recognised the film’s message—a tale of love between two people from different castes. The Shazia Iqbal-directed movie, which starred Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, underwent a lot of delays and changes. The film is inspired by Mari Selvaraj’s acclaimed 2018 Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal, reimagined for a Hindi-speaking audience.

Karan Johar informed the media during the trailer launch ceremony in Mumbai:

Although it took us some time to get to the movies, the Censor Board was sympathetic and accommodating. They understood the main point we were attempting to make. We shared their commitment to treating the subject sensitively.

Johar went on to express his pride in the finished picture, describing it as a reflection of “today’s harsh realities” and a movie that addresses a significant social issue.

These tasks can take long at times. They cannot occur on a single day. There are certain procedures set by the Censor Board that must be followed. “All good things take time,” he added, adding that it took some time.

Johar claims that Dhadak 2 is an engrossing and thought-provoking film.

These issues aren’t just confined to small towns or rural areas. They are occurring everywhere. This is a reality of our times, regardless of where you live.

Dhadak 2: What Is It About?

The protagonist of the movie is a college student named Nilesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), who develops feelings for Vidhi (Triptii Dimri). However, a significant barrier to their relationship is the disparity in their caste backgrounds.

Prior to gaining its current August release date, the movie was repeatedly postponed from its initial November 2024 release date.

“Art Is the Best Way to Speak Your Truth”: Johar claimed he doesn’t care how the movie turns out.

If I let fear hold me back from the start, nothing would ever get done. As the film says, “When you have a choice, stand up and fight.” And the most effective way to express your reality, in my opinion, is through art.

Johar acknowledged that his production company, Dharma Productions, has a long history of producing films in a particular style, but they have made a conscious effort to change that.

It is the duty of the storyteller to make significant subjects widely known. I believe we’ve made repeated attempts to accomplish that. We have handled delicate subjects with tact, as the situation calls for. Cinema, in my opinion, is a medium that has genuine impact.

According to him, Dhadak 2 isn’t just a love story—it’s a mainstream film that also speaks volumes.

From the Heart: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri Reflect on Their Roles

Renowned for her parts in Laila Majnu, Bulbbul, Kaala, and Animal, Triptii Dimri expressed her enthusiasm for the movie: Dhadak 2

“This project makes me very proud. Being a part of such an enthusiastic team means a lot to me. Although it was difficult, playing Vidhi was the kind of part I’ve always desired—one that challenges me as an actor. You’ll see why we’re all so proud after you see the movie. It’s really unique.

After playing metropolitan parts in films like Gehraiyaan, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, and Gully Boy, Siddhant Chaturvedi revealed his lifelong ambition to play a small-town character:

Even though I’m from a tiny town, I’ve never had the opportunity to share a tale like that. I recall saying “yes” right away when Karan Sir called and said, “There’s a story I want to tell.”

“I usually seek challenges, and this one did just that. I could truly relate to that existence because I’ve been there. I wasn’t getting such kinds of scripts till today, for some reason. Dhadak 2
