The Cabinet Drops Charges Against Former KPSC Chairman and Members for Unusual Recruitment Practices in 2011 Large-scale anomalies in recruitment that occurred in 2011 and caused widespread protests at the time were the subject of the allegations against the previous chairman and members of the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). In relation to the purported irregularities in the 2011 gazetted officer recruitment process, the Karnataka Cabinet on Thursday decided not to get prosecution approval against the former chairman of the KPSC and nine members.
Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil informed the media of the cabinet’s choices, saying the government has decided to end the prosecution of former chairman Gonal Bheemappa and the other nine members.
The Cabinet has previously made the decision to regularise the services of 48 officers hired during that contentious time in 2021.
The charges are based on serious recruitment irregularities that occurred in 2011 and caused a great deal of public indignation at the time. Procedural irregularities and potential manipulation in the selection process were discovered by the CID, which looked into the issue.
Any legal action against KPSC members would need prior approval from constitutional authorities like the Governor and, in certain situations, the President of India, as they hold constitutional offices.
According to Mr. Patil, the Cabinet felt it would be prudent to forego taking legal action because the former chairman and members had already retired from their positions..

At a cost of ₹28.75 crore, the Cabinet also authorised the Sindhanur Taluk Hospital’s conversion to a District Hospital, boosting its bed capacity from 100 to 200.
Furthermore, the Town Municipal Councils of Maddur and Malur will be promoted to City Municipal Councils.
The Karnataka Cabinet has essentially put an end to a lengthy period of controversy that generated public outcry more than ten years ago by dropping the prosecution. This comes after 48 officers hired during the contested period had their job status regularised by the Cabinet in 2021.
