While the Tesla Model Y is already available in markets like Australia and Thailand, MG is gearing up to turn heads with its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. by launching a brand-new electric SUV. In addition to competing directly with the Tesla Model Y, this forthcoming model is anticipated to face off against the Škoda Enyaq in the UK.
MG has only shared one teaser image thus far and has kept the majority of the design specifics under wraps. The new car’s shape suggests that it is similar to the IM6, a model that MG already sells in Australia and Thailand. Across global markets, this very model is known by a different name — the IM Motors LS6.
IM Motors, the premium EV brand owned by MG’s parent company SAIC Motor, offers a base variant featuring a 75 kWh battery and a rear-wheel-drive electric motor delivering 291 horsepower. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, has a 450 km driving range, and can charge quickly at up to 153 kW.
Two more expensive models have bigger 100 kWh batteries that can go up to 555 km between charges. Like EVs like the XPeng and Hyundai Ioniq 5, these models also switch from a 400V to an 800V electrical design. If you have access to a compatible high-speed charger, this modification allows for ultra-fast charging at 396 kW, which is faster than any Porsche Taycan and allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in under 15 minutes.

The performance variant also has a strong dual-motor setup that produces 767 horsepower. It has the same speed as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, going from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds.
