Shashi Tharoor
Amid the Pahalgam terror attacks and India’s response through ‘Operation Sindoor’, Shashi Tharoor is heading a cross-party delegation on a strategic visit to the United States.
In light of the recent terror attacks in Pahalgam and India’s counteraction through “Operation Sindoor,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is spearheading a bipartisan Indian delegation on a diplomatic mission to the United States. stressed during the visit that India does not wish to endanger its ties with the United States because of the information about former U.S. President Donald Trump’s purported role in mediating a truce between India and Pakistan on May 10. Tharoor refuted Trump’s repeated claims that he had utilised economic incentives to successfully end the most recent round of hostilities. He pointed out that even if Trump took credit, India’s diplomatic approach is still cautious and strategic.
Together with Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a former Indian ambassador to the United States who is currently a member of the BJP, Milind Deora (Shiv Sena, Rajya Sabha), and Tejasvi Surya (BJP, Lok Sabha), Tharoor, who represents the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha, appeared at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Tharoor was also questioned on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent scathing remark that Trump had asked Prime Minister Modi to “surrender,” as well as if India had replied forcefully enough to Trump’s frequent claims of having brokered peace.
Milind Deora, who had quit the Congress Party because to differences with its leadership, was observed grinning at the time, and Tharoor laughed in return.
While expressing “great respect” for the U.S. Presidency, Tharoor was cautious to clarify that disputing assertions does not equate to belittling someone’s goodness. He went on,
“We will respond in the language of force as long as [Pakistan] speaks the language of terrorism.” and no third party is required for that.
He went on,
“On the other hand, we are prepared to hold discussions—without the need for any kind of mediation—if they genuinely wish to destroy the terrorist infrastructure.”
Tharoor made it clear that India doesn’t need any persuasion to halt hostilities. He emphasised that India has previously informed the United States of its readiness to end hostilities as soon as Pakistan acts.
He added that the U.S. and Pakistan should discuss whether the U.S. had asked Pakistan to halt the war and implied that India would do the same.
India and Washington have a “valuable strategic partnership,” Tharoor emphasised, adding:

“We don’t want to jeopardise that over a single problem.”
Finally, he said,
Therefore, even though small issues may arise and disappear, our attention is always on the future. Finally, Milind Deora added:
I’ve known Dr. Tharoor for many years, and I truly want to express my deep admiration for him. He has consistently put the nation above the party. The delegation has been interacting with American lawmakers, think tanks, the media, and Indian diaspora members while in Washington, D.C.
