Recently, actress Shilpa Shirodkar talked about a horrific experience from her youth when unfounded rumours circulated that she had been shot and killed while filming the 1995 movie Raghuveer. She discussed how the entire incident played out and how it impacted her family in an interview with Pinkvilla.
“I noticed about twenty to twenty-five missed calls when I got back to my room,” Shilpa recalled.
The Panic-Inducing Incident
A startling rumour that Shilpa Shirodkar had been shot and killed went viral during the making of Raghuveer, which starred Suniel Shetty and Shilpa. The movie’s producer later acknowledged that everything was a publicity gimmick to create attention about the picture.
But the rumour caused havoc, particularly in Shilpa’s house
For the shoot, I was at Kullu Manali. We didn’t have cell phones back then, so my father was frantically attempting to call the motel. Because they had heard the rumour, everyone on the set was perplexed and unsure if it was actually me while I was working with Suniel Shetty,” she revealed.
Shilpa went on,
“I noticed all those missed calls when I returned to my room. I had been shot dead, according to a newspaper headline, which greatly alarmed my parents.
The producer says it was a public relations tactic
She was eventually informed by the movie’s producer that it was really a marketing ploy.
“I said, ‘Okay, maybe that was a bit much,’ when they told me.” There were no organised publicity programs or PR firms in those days. In actuality, I was the last to discover that this was even taking place. With a hint of humour, Shilpa remarked, “No one asked for permission either.” “Fortunately, the movie did well, so I wasn’t upset for very long,” she continued.
