Marvel’s ‘Thunderbolts’ Set to Premiere on OTT Platforms from July 1

Marvel fans now have a new cause to rejoice: starting July 1, “Thunderbolts”, which stars Valentina Allegra de Fontaine as the leader of a group of anti-heroes, will be available on a number of OTT platforms.  Some of the most interesting anti-heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are featured in the movie, which was eventually renamed as “The New Avengers” in some marketing circles.

 USA Today reports that starting on July 1, Thunderbolts will be accessible for digital purchase and rental on Fandango at Home, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video. This comes nearly two months after the film originally hit theatres on May 2.

  In Thunderbolts, a high-stakes, ethically dubious plot brings together lesser-known but beloved MCU characters.  According to the official summary: “The movie centres on a group of anti-heroes who are enticed to join a perilous mission that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, has planned.  The group must face their perilous pasts and determine whether salvation or disaster awaits them as they attempt to escape a deadly trap.


The ensemble cast consists of:

Red Guardian, played by David Harbour

  Wyatt Russell in the role of John Walker

The film also features notable supporting performances from Olga Kurylenko, Wendell Pierce, and Chris Bauer.

  Thunderbolts, which was written by Eric Pearson (Black Widow) and directed by Jake Schreier (Paper Towns, Robot & Frank), represents a change in tone for Marvel since it combines psychological tension, emotional drama, and morally challenging missions.

Reaction and Performance at the Box Office

 The OTT launch gives fans another chance to interact with the movie and reconsider its position within the changing MCU, even if the theatrical release had mixed reviews, with praise for performances and criticism for its pacing.
