Ahmedabad Plane Crash: India’s First Deadly Passenger Flight Accident in Five Years
Since the devastating Kozhikode crash in 2020, the most recent Air India disaster in Ahmedabad is the country’s first deadly passenger aircraft accident. Shortly after taking off Thursday, Air India aircraft AI 171, which was travelling from Ahmedabad to London, crashed at Meghaninagar, which is near Ahmedabad Airport. 2020: Flight IX-1344 of Air India Express (Kozhikode)
When Air India Express flight IX-1344 landed in Kozhikode on August 7, 2020, it crashed due to severe weather and limited visibility. The Boeing 737-800, which was part of the Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indians who were stranded overseas during COVID-19, broke in two after overshooting the tabletop runway and plummeting into a 30-foot chasm. 2010: Air India Express Flight IX-812 – Mangalore Tragedy
On May 22, 2010, Air India Express Flight IX-812, en route from Dubai to Mangalore, missed the tabletop runway during landing and crashed into a deep valley, erupting in flames. Out of the 166 people on board, 158 lost their lives, making it one of the most devastating aviation disasters in India’s history. Only eight people, largely those seated in the front, made it out alive.

1993: Flight 491 of Indian Airlines (Aurangabad)
In Aurangabad, on April 26, 1993, a truck that had inadvertently crossed the runway during takeoff crashed with a Boeing 737. Of the 118 persons on board, 55 perished when the plane lost control, crashed, and caught fire.
1990 – Indian Airlines Flight 605 (Bangalore)
Ahmedabad Plane Crash An Airbus A320 crashed before the runway at Bangalore’s HAL Airport on February 14, 1990. Tragically, 92 of the 146 passengers and crew members perished in the crash.
1988: Flight 113 of Indian Airlines (Ahmedabad)
